Lovingly built in the neo-Craftsman style, this sprawling northern California
home is located in a 30-mile long finger valley less than two hours NW of San Francisco,
or half way between the state capital in Sacramento and Clear Lake.
Rumsey Canyon Inn is surrounded by 1500 sq ft of porch ideal for enjoying the outdoors in a protected environment. |
During the warmer months, enjoy low-impact activities including bird-spotting, reading, wine-tasting and stellar photographic opportunities. More active adventures might include hiking the local groomed trails to an elevation of 1000 feet, or whitewater rafting on Cache Creek. During the cooler months, if the glow of a wood fire and a good "read" are your fantasies, Rumsey Canyon Inn provides an ideal setting for hunkering down and regrouping in a beautiful setting. |
Whatever your sense of adventure, the mile-wide Capay Valley is home to organic farming, a perennial nursery, wineries (one with tasting room) and four noteworthy annual events: The Capay Valley Almond Festival the last Sunday in February, The Lavender Festival in June, and The Hoes Down Harvest Festival in October. |

The Orchard Room, a sunny and bright room facing SE overlooks an old walnut orchard and the "kiva," an outdoor patio below. The bathroom has a shower. This room has a window-seat reading bench which offers views of the nearby mountain and surrounding hills. |
The Canyon Room with two skylights and facing NW, offers more subdued lighting. This room has a small sleeping alcove suitable for an additional guest. The bathroom has a shower/tub combination. There is a window-seat reading bench that offers a view toward Rumsey Canyon and the dramatic hills beyond. |
Innkeeper, Sylvie Post, an alternative education teacher, moved to northern California 10 years ago after living in the Chicago area for 20 years prior to moving first to British Columbia and then to rural Oregon. She says she just doesn't know what happened -- she clicked her heels together and landed in Rumsey! |
